True Gratitude

That I will never die; I am relieved

of debts, since it was given me for free

this flock of simple things to pasture lead.

That all will one day pass, I don’t grieve,

for like the autumn’s wheat fields gave their blessing

upon the works of days and grain for threshing,

so setting suns great paper cranes at sea

illuminate and warm the horizon to lay

white lights and ways beyond my days.
